What is under-eye fat repositioning?
Under-eye fat repositioning is a type of lower eyelid surgery. Instead of simply removing the fat that causes eye bags, the surgeon releases it and moves it down into the tear trough — the hollow between the lower eyelid and the cheek — and secures it there. The bulge becomes flatter and the hollow is filled, giving a smoother transition from eyelid to cheek.
In most cases the surgery is done through a small incision on the inside of the lower eyelid (the transconjunctival approach), so there is no visible external scar. Because your own tissue is used, the result usually looks natural and does not create the sunken look that can follow over-removal of fat.

What is the difference between fat repositioning and fat removal?
Fat removal takes out excess fat to flatten a bulge. Fat repositioning moves that fat into the hollow below, treating the bulge and the groove at the same time. Repositioning is often preferred when there is a visible tear trough or dark shadow.
Will there be a scar?
In most cases the incision is made inside the lower eyelid, so there is no visible external scar. If loose skin also needs to be removed, your surgeon will discuss a fine incision below the lashes.
How long does recovery take?
The main swelling usually settles within 3–7 days, and most bruising within about 2 weeks. The smoother contour is typically visible after 2–4 weeks, with the final result at around 3 months.
Are the results permanent?
The repositioned fat is your own living tissue, so results are usually long-lasting. Natural ageing continues, so the area may still change gradually over many years.
Can fat repositioning fix sunken eyes from a previous surgery?

What are the risks?
