The Short Answer

How do I choose the right facelift?

A facelift is surgery that repositions sagging facial tissue and removes excess skin to restore a firmer contour to the cheeks, jawline and neck. Modern techniques lift the SMAS — the muscle and connective-tissue layer under the skin — or release deeper ligaments (the deep plane), so the skin is not simply pulled tight. This is what helps results look natural and last longer.

The right choice depends on where you see ageing and how much. Mild jowling or early laxity may suit a mini facelift or a non-surgical option. Moderate to marked sagging of the cheeks, jowls and neck usually needs a SMAS or deep plane facelift, often combined with a neck lift. Upper-face heaviness is treated separately with a brow, forehead or temple lift.

Your surgeon examines your skin quality, bone structure, fat volume and neck before recommending a plan. Many patients combine procedures — for example a facelift with fat grafting or eyelid surgery — in one operation.

Full-Face Facelift Techniques

Facelift surgery for the cheeks, jowls and jawline

These procedures treat midface and lower-face sagging. They differ mainly in which tissue layer is lifted and how far the dissection extends.

01

Deep Plane Facelift

Releases the retaining ligaments and lifts skin and SMAS together as one unit for a natural, long-lasting result.

Best for Moderate to marked sagging of cheeks, jowls and nasolabial folds

02

Extended Deep Plane Facelift

Extends the deep plane release further into the midface and neck to treat several areas of ageing at once.

Best for Advanced midface descent, jowls and neck laxity together

Learn more →
03

SMAS Facelift

Lifts and tightens the SMAS layer beneath the skin, then redrapes the skin without tension.

Best for Jowls, lower-face laxity and loss of jawline definition

Learn more →
04

SMAS Plication

Folds and stitches the SMAS rather than cutting it — a less extensive way to tighten the deeper layer.

FAQ

Facelift in Seoul: frequently asked questions

Which facelift is best for me?
It depends on where and how much your face has aged. Early sagging may suit a mini facelift or thread lift, while moderate to marked sagging of the cheeks, jowls and neck usually needs a SMAS or deep plane facelift. Your surgeon recommends a technique after examining you.
What is the difference between a deep plane and a SMAS facelift?
A SMAS facelift tightens the SMAS layer separately from the skin. A deep plane facelift releases the retaining ligaments and moves skin and SMAS together, which can give a stronger midface lift. Both aim for a natural, tension-free result.
How long does a facelift last?
A surgical facelift does not stop ageing, but the improvement usually lasts many years — often up to around 10 years for SMAS and deep plane techniques. Longevity depends on your skin, lifestyle and the technique used.
How long should I stay in Seoul?
For most surgical facelifts we recommend about 10–14 days. This allows for the consultation, surgery, follow-ups and stitch removal. Non-surgical options such as a thread lift need only a few days.
Is facelift surgery painful?
Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia or sedation, so you do not feel pain during the operation. Afterwards most patients describe tightness and soreness rather than strong pain, which is managed with prescribed medication.
Will there be visible scars?
Incisions are usually placed around the ear and into the hairline so they are well hidden. Scars typically fade over several months. Your surgeon will explain incision placement for your technique.
How much does a facelift cost in Seoul?
As a guide, a mini facelift is about ₩4–6 million, a SMAS facelift about ₩7–10 million and a full facelift with neck lift about ₩10–13 million. Your final quote depends on your facial structure and technique and is confirmed at consultation.
Can I combine a facelift with other procedures?
Yes. A facelift is often combined with a neck lift, fat grafting, brow lift or eyelid surgery. Your surgeon will advise what is safe to combine in one operation.
Do you have English-speaking staff?
Yes. Our team supports international patients in English, Chinese and Japanese. You can start with a free online consultation on WhatsApp before you travel.
