What is a neck lift?
A neck lift is cosmetic surgery that tightens loose neck skin, removes excess fat and smooths neck bands and wrinkles. The key structure is the platysma, a thin sheet of muscle just under the neck skin. With age it loosens and separates, which creates vertical bands and a soft, undefined jaw-to-neck angle.
During surgery, the platysma is tightened and repositioned, fat under the chin may be removed, and excess skin is trimmed and redraped without tension. Incisions are designed to be discreet, usually behind the ears and sometimes in a small crease under the chin.
